Celebrating 6 Years at Kasselman: Mark Bomba

This month, we are highlighting one of our PV Design Engineers, Mark Bomba. Mark started his career with us at Kasselman 6 years ago and we are excited to see his continued contributions and growth with Kasselman in the coming years!
Q: How did you start your career with Kasselman Solar?
A: “I was working for a solar company that was located in the Southern Region of NYS that operated in Upstate also. That company closed offices and operations in the Upstate Region and then only operated in the Southern Tier. This was the best thing to happen to me in the solar industry… I now had the opportunity to work for Kasselman Solar. I had met Steve, the owner, on several occasions and really liked Steve’s attitude and philosophy.”
Q: What are some of your proudest accomplishments here?

A: “There are several projects that I can think of that were really interesting projects, but just overall helping anyone that is the right fit for solar to bring their project to fruition and successful operation and bring the joy of adding solar on their roof or in their yard.”

Q: Can you share a valuable lesson or advice that you have learned during your time here?

A: “Being positive in all aspects and that we keep a level head when approaching obstacles and work with other great people we have in our organization to accomplish our given goals.”

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Kasselman?

A: “Our team!! We are forward thinking, we are future-proofing our systems for future upgrades. I have worked in the solar industry for close to 20 years and hands down this is the best company I have ever worked for and hope to work for for many years.”

Q: What are your future goals/aspirations at Kasselman?

A: “To continue to grow my knowledge of future technologies, particularly battery backup and integration with solar, and encourage more people to adapt to this new world.”

Q: What does a normal work day look like for you?

A: “I am pretty lucky here… I get to meet very interesting people that are open-minded to going solar and go out to a site and meet new people that generally we share something in common. I provide those individuals costs and what our proposed system will provide to them.”

A bit more about Mark outside of working with Kasselman:

Q: What is some of your educational/work background previous to working at Kasselman Solar? How did that prepare you for your current work here?

A: “I attended RIT, HVCC and RPI, these places inspired my love of technology. After school I moved out to Arizona and worked in the signage and visual effects industry, project managing some very cool projects, including Arizona Diamondback stadium and most of their signage, along with Bass Pro Shops stores 2-11, and H&M and their initial expansion into America.

After 9/11 happened, and all retail stopped on 9/12, this started my journey to going back to school. I eventually went back to school and got into the very first course offered by HVCC in Solar Electric Design and Installation. Being that signage installation is not much different than panel installation and their attachment methods, the only difference is one uses energy and the other produces energy.”

Q: What do you enjoy spending your time on outside of work?

A: “I love the woods, I would actually say the woods are “my church”. Years ago, I was lucky enough to purchase a property about 4 miles into the woods behind where I live, it’s a small tree farm. I am surrounded by three properties that amount to around 10,000 acres. I spend whatever free time I have maintaining trails that my father and I worked on since being very young.

One day I hope to set up several cabins that are off grid where others can have some nice experiences staying within wildlife and the woods.”
